Details/Discussion:
Design.
As a website is often the customer's first impression of a company it's important to convey the right message. My client asked me to create a clean and modern website to reflect his brand new motorhomes. A modern font, use of semi-transparent screens and a large background image achieve this.
Content
Provide people with what they want to know and sales will follow. In addition to photographs I was also provided with a lot of information that needed to be conveyed to the customer in an easy to digest manner. Limiting page length and excellent navigation is a good technique.
Structure & Layout
My client was keen that the website fill the screen. This leads to a "fluid" website design that expands to fill large screens, and contracts to fit in smaller screens.
To maximise screen space I put the navigation elements across the top and split the content area into two boxes. The left box is used for the title, contact information and relevant links. The bigger box on the right was to be the location of the actual page content. This works really well as you are able to provide a lot of content in this way, with the added bonus of a secondary level of navigation.
